Where Do I Find Auditions?

A working actor helps you get work

This blog is based on a workshop I teach at the Magnet Theater entitled “Where Do I Find Auditions?” Here you will find tips on where to find auditions in addition to auditioning and acting tips in general

Small Favor

Hi Everyone,

Hope you’re doing well. Been mostly posting audition stuff on the Facebook page, but have a favor to ask. I’m in an indie movie called ‘Hudson’ and we’re trying to get it into the Duplass Brothers Film Festival where there’s a chance they might executive produce it. Amazing! But they require submissions to have 1,000 “followers” for consideration, what?!? Right now we’re several hundred people short and the deadline is in two days. If you wouldn’t mind taking a minute to “follow” our movie through the link below, I’d greatly appreciate it. You can select to not receive updates if you want. And if you’ve already supported from somewhere else, thanks a lot!!

Thanks so much and hope all is well!

It’s only up for another 2 days (there’s literally a countdown clock) so don’t wait!

ps. Reminder I’m now mostly posting audition breakdowns on the ‘Where Do I Find Auditions?’ Facebook page HERE

Union Female role

Mostly been posting on the facebook page lately here since it’s much easier to do so on the go. Am at my computer now so here is this timely posting from Kaitlin Fontana:

Please read thoroughly and ONLY reply if you are SAG/AFTRA (SAG/AFTRA eligible is a NO).

Black & White (the show I write for on A&E) is looking for 3 white women to play drunk sorority girls in a sketch that tapes next Wednesday. If you are available and can pass for a college-aged sorority type, please email bwcasting15@gmail.com with your headshot/info and you will be sent sides for a submission tape.

EDIT: Changed to “white women” above because part of the point of the sketch is their whiteness. Thank you!

And just FYI I wrote this piece so it’s not about how dumb women are…it’s about how dumb THESE PEOPLE are.

Improv for Commercials

The super fun ‘Improv for Commercial Auditions’ returns! Learn when and how to take “risks” in auditions because directors don’t want robots. Agent Abby Berger and manager Jenevieve Brewer will be at two of the classes for an hour each to meet you and give performance feedback. Past students have been called in and I’ve heard back from at least one person who booked something with their newfound confidence and knowledge. Please share, and thanks!

Nov. 14, 21 and Dec. 5

12-3pm at Simple Studios

Non-union m/f improvisers

This is from T.J. Mannix’s audition class mailing list reposted with his permission(maybe!):

COLOR CORRECT is a non-scripted comedy pilot presentation from Ryan Ling, the creator of GUY CODE and GIRL CODE, where comedians, entertainers, and academics have honest conversations about race in America.  Touching on current events as well as historical issues, the goal of this series is to gain a deeper understanding for one another, and laugh along the way.

We are seeking male and female cast members of all ethnicities:

COMEDIANS AND IMPROVISERS:  MALE and FEMALE appearing to be 20-early 30s – Seeking smart and articulate improvisers and comedians who are able to have real and honest conversations about race and be funny in the process.  Looking for people from diverse backgrounds and upbringings.

Rate: $1000-$3000

Non-Union/Waiver Eligible – performers will be performing as themselves

Please have anyone interested email me their pictures, resumes, and supporting links to ColorCorrectPilot@gmail.com

Casting Paid Web Series

Lately I’ve been posting more breakdowns to the ‘Where Do I Find Auditions?’ Facebook page instead of this one because it is easier to post there “on the go” away from home so if you want to cover all of your bases you can ‘like’ the Facebook page HERE.

Breakdowns below are from Redwall Productions’ mailing list:

Friend and fellow filmmaker Jason Hood is casting his web series – A Pair of Normals. Jason has a web series currently running called “Life After Fat”

Please contact him for any and all information – jasonhood1220@gmail.com

SAG new media project, these roles will be paid, auditions will be in October.

Iris: late 20s-early 30s, tall, skinny, awkward, twitchy. Deer in the headlights look. Reacts viscerally to things, tries to act composed but the millions of anxieties swimming around her head tend to bubble to the surface. Kind of like Kristen Wiig playing an Aubrey Plaza character, or Kristen Stewart playing a self-aware parody of herself. Iris is a divorced Youtube psychic who begins the series moving in with her grandmother after release from a mental hospital. Kind of gothy/witchy in appearance, like Stevie Nicks, Dee Dee Penny, or Florence Welch. Likes to hide under layers of black clothing.

Betty: early 20s, short, maybe a bit curvy. Also awkward but in a messy, uncoordinated way as opposed to Iris’s hyper-self-awareness. Her self-confidence comes from posturing like Kanye West, and has a strong determination to succeed, even though she has no idea what she’s doing. Betty is a destitute college dropout who makes ASMR videos and moves in with Iris after the two hit it off at a vlogger meetup. Looks like a 1980s midwestern housewife with huge glasses, a big rat’s nest of hair, and oversized novelty sweaters, which unintentionally looks trendy/hipster in 2015

Xööüëë: early 20s, short-ish and skinny. Aesthetics are important to her. Voice wise she kind of sounds ditsy and drags her words out. May have a vocal fry. And every sentence she says comes up at the end like a question? Her real name Ramona, she’s an old acquaintance of Betty’s who drags Betty along on adventures and they form a rap duo. Super trendy, kind of ridiculous Bushwick scene style-wise, lots of crazy colors. Looks a bit like Grimes, Charli XCX, MIA
